PRESS RELEASE
Hapeville Emergency Operation Center has now finalized plans for the reopening of N. Central Ave/GA HWY 3 and effected businesses in the area. As of 1:15 p.m. today, power has been restored and cleanup efforts are nearing completion. N. Central Ave is projected to be opened at 9 p.m. this evening. According to city management, the following business addresses will remain closed, due to their close proximity, while emergency repairs are being completed:
591 N. Central Ave - Fracht USA
597 N. Central Ave - Collapsed Building
599 N. Central Ave – Academy

Our team anticipates the reopening of these businesses tomorrow afternoon. All other business locations are cleared for reopening at their discretion. Structural engineers and other experts, procured by the city, continue their investigation as to the cause of the building collapse. No further information is available at this time.

It is the intent of city management to provide information to the public in a timely manner. City Manager William Whitson stated, “Transparency in conducting all of our public business is of the highest priority for the Mayor and City Council.” In this regard, a Business Fact Sheet is being composed and will be distributed upon its completion. The Business Fact Sheet will provide business owners with contact information for any insurance claims and a scheduled date for an “open table” meeting to address questions and concerns.

Should you have any further questions, please feel free to contact the City Manager.
