The Hapeville Community Garden was founded in the Spring of 2020 thanks to a generous grant from the Food Well Alliance to build community while promoting the value of locally grown foods and urban agriculture. The garden is free and open to the public and is maintained by local volunteers with City support.
The City is seeking a design that can be rendered as a digital line design and painted by community volunteers. Successful applicants will be artists who can show artistic merit demonstrated by a strong portfolio of work as well as a willingness to collaborate with the community.
Three finalists will be chosen by City staff to create a design that will be voted on by the community. All three finalists will be compensated for their preliminary design. The chosen artist will then be tasked with creating a final design that will be installed at the garden location and will receive a $500 stipend for their concept. The chosen artist is encouraged but not required to be part of the installation process on-site.
Applicants are asked to submit the following information in a single PDF file to be eligible for consideration:
1. Resume with current contact information
2. Purpose statement describing interest in the project and what elements may be included in a potential design (a mock-up is not required)
3. Five (5) to ten (10) recent and relevant work samples labeled with date, title, and location for public art
4. A description of your interest in working with the community
All applications must be emailed to Bianca Howard, bhoward@hapeville.org, by Friday, June 4th at 5 PM.
