On Saturday November 23rd, at approximately 8pm the Hapeville Police responded to a shooting at 484 King Arnold Street. Upon arrival, it was discovered that two men pulled into the parking at that location and drove up to a juvenile that they knew. As they approached him, two other unknown men approached the vehicle with him. The driver of the vehicle noticed one of the men reach into his coat and appeared to be retrieving a gun. At that point he tried to speed away and the unknown man started firing gunshots into his vehicle. He said that he drove home to College Street Apartments and that is where he realized that he and his passenger had been shot. He said that the passenger struggled to get out of the car and died on scene. The Driver was transported to Grady Hospital and was treated and released the following day.
At the time of the report, two separate crime scenes were established, the first on King Arnold Street and the second on College Street. Officers and Detectives canvassed the area and discovered the name and location of the juvenile. Detectives brought him to the station and conducted an interview. In the first interview the juvenile denied that he was even there. It was not until the following day and the second interview that he admitted that he was there. At that point he gave nicknames of the two other men. The juvenile was taken into custody and the department went to work to track down the other suspects. Detectives quickly discovered the identity of the shooter and secured warrants for his arrest. Today, with the help of the U.S. Marshal's Office, 19 year old Kendall Mitchell was arrested for Murder, Armed Robbery and Aggravated Assault.
