Thank you for being so interested in volunteering for one of the City of Hapeville's Boards, Commissions, or Committees. We are excited that you are willing to offer your time and your talents to improve the quality of life in our community.

Civic duty at the local level is one of the greatest forms of service available. It helps to ensure representative, open, fair and ethical governance by a diverse body of residents with a varied experience and perspective. Committing to a civic appointment also makes a statement about your character and willingness to engage in service to fellow residents at a deeper level for a defined term. We invite you to proceed in the application process with the understanding that civic duty requires preparation, in-person, live streamed, public meetings that can sometimes involve a measure of healthy disagreement subject to public scrutiny. The City of Hapeville is grateful for your interest in this process.

The City has multiple Boards, Commissions, and Committees with many areas of interest, including business and economic development, land planning, parks and recreation, ethics, and public safety.

Again, thanks for your interest in serving your community on a board or commission.

What Happens Next?

The City of Hapeville continually accepts applications for volunteer positions on its boards and commissions even when there are no current vacancies. Terms of service vary from 1-4 years depending on the role, and terms end on 12/31 in any given year. As vacancies occur, the Mayor and Council review all new and returning applications at a public work session scheduled early in the new year. An applicant’s attendance at this meeting is not required and has no bearing on selection. However, all applicants are notified of the meeting. In addition, the appointment-by-vote meeting is part of the regular public agenda available on the city website prior to each Mayor and Council meeting. Those selected at the meeting are appointed or re-appointed as a routine council vote and notified of the outcome. At this time, there is no formal swearing-in ceremony.
